Metal Can Desiccant

Environmentally or budget conscious customers may not want to use the Dry Brik II desiccant.

The Global and Zephyr drying kits are also designed to use rechargeable desiccants. These desiccants are recharged by heating them in the oven. Never place metal in a microwave oven!

Using the Metal Can Desiccant

As moisture is absorbed by the desiccant, the indicator will change from blue to light pink, or from orange to pale, depending on the desiccant.

Once the desiccant crystals in the metal desiccant can turn light pink or pale orange in colour, this signals that the desiccant can no longer absorb moisture.

Proper function can be restored by placing the metal desiccant can in an oven for 2 hours or more at a temperature of 105-150 degress Celsius (or 225 - 300 degrees Fahrenheit). The colour will change back to blue or bright orange. Repeat as necessary.

The metal canister will be hot when it is removed from the oven - please take care to avoid burns. Allow the can to cool before it is placed in the drying kit. Best results will occur if the can is covered during the cooling period - a drinking glass upside-down works best.

Frequency of Recharging

The frequency of metal can desiccant recharging will vary according to several factors, such as season, geographic location, local climate/weather conditions, and the activity/perspiration level of the user.

Check the color of the desiccant crystals before each use, and recharge as needed. Do not operate a drying kit without a properly positioned desiccant.
